Three hotels, one beach and the largest casino in the Caribbean
The best resort in our set: exceptional beach, golf, spa and dining across three distinct hotels. The casino is beautiful and large, but only visitors may play and there is no confirmed live poker room.
Baha Mar is a vast integrated resort on Cable Beach, a few miles west of downtown Nassau. It opened in 2017 after a turbulent development period and is owned by Hong Kong–based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises. Three hotels share the site: the large Grand Hyatt, the stylish SLS and the intimate Rosewood. We review the resort as a whole because all three share the same beach, golf course, water park and, crucially, the same casino.
The casino, which occupies roughly 100,000 square feet, is licensed by the Gaming Board for The Bahamas. Casino gaming in The Bahamas is reserved for visitors aged 18 and over: under Bahamian law, citizens, permanent residents, work-permit holders and their spouses may not gamble in the country’s casinos. The government has discussed changing that rule, but as of September 2026 it had not been amended.
01Rooms: three hotels, three personalities
The Grand Hyatt is the largest hotel and the natural choice for families and groups, with a wide range of room types and easy access to the casino and water park. The SLS is younger and more design-driven, with a lively pool scene and a sense of style that suits couples and friends. The Rosewood is the quietest and most luxurious, with spacious rooms, private-feeling beachfront and a higher level of personal service.
Rooms across all three are modern, bright and well equipped, and many have balconies facing the ocean. Resort fees and taxes add significantly to the headline rate in The Bahamas, so compare total prices rather than nightly rates.
02Dining & bars
With around 40 restaurants and bars across the resort, dining is a standout. Options range from celebrity-chef steakhouses and fine Italian to Bahamian seafood, Asian restaurants and relaxed beach grills. Guests can move freely between the hotels’ restaurants, which gives Baha Mar more variety than almost any Caribbean resort.
Prices are high even by Caribbean resort standards. Reservations are advisable for the signature restaurants, especially on weekends and holidays.
03Beach, golf, spa & water park
The beach is long, white and well maintained, with plenty of loungers and water-sports options. Royal Blue, the resort’s 18-hole, par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature course, is split between dune-lined front holes and a dramatic limestone back nine. The ESPA spa is one of the largest in the region.
Baha Bay, a 15-acre beachfront water park with slides, a lazy river and a wave pool, is included for resort guests and makes Baha Mar a strong family choice. There are also multiple pools spread across the hotels, each with a different mood.
04Entertainment
Nightlife centers on the casino, the bars and the SLS pool scene, with live music and events in the evenings. There is an art gallery program, shops and a convention center, but no arena on the scale of the US resorts in our set.
Downtown Nassau, with its historic streets, markets and the cruise port, is a short taxi ride away, and day trips to the Out Islands can be arranged.
05Getting there
Lynden Pindling International Airport has frequent flights from US and Canadian cities and connections from Europe, and the drive to Baha Mar is short. US travelers can often pre-clear US customs at the airport on their way home. Taxis and resort transfers are available.
Hurricane season runs from June to November. Travel insurance and flexible bookings are wise during those months.
Daylight, sea views and the Caribbean’s largest gaming floor
Baha Mar’s casino is unlike most of the floors in our set. Floor-to-ceiling windows let daylight in and show off the ocean and pools, and the design is airy, bright and luxurious. The Gaming Board’s licensee listing describes 119 live tables offering 18 different games and more than 1,100 slot machines, with a sportsbook and a separate gaming pavilion inside the water park.
Two things limit the casino score. First, only visitors may gamble, and responsible-gambling resources are less visible than in the US jurisdictions we cover. Second, we could not confirm a dedicated live poker room.
The gaming floor
The main floor is bright and spacious, with a mix of table games, slot banks and bars. Smoking is permitted in the casino, which is the one area of the resort where it is allowed indoors; players sensitive to smoke should ask about the current layout.
Table games
The table selection is the largest in the Caribbean, according to the Gaming Board listing, and includes blackjack, baccarat, craps and roulette played to Las Vegas–style rules, with high-limit betting available. Always check blackjack payouts and roulette wheel type before you buy in.
Poker
We could not confirm a live poker room with dealt cash games. House-banked poker variants such as Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em are common in Caribbean casinos, but check what is currently available.
Slots & video poker
More than 1,100 slot machines include video reels, classic reels, progressives, video poker and electronic table games.
Sportsbook
The Gaming Board listing describes a sportsbook branded William Hill, with wagering on American football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, motor racing and combat sports, and in-play betting on some events. Branding and operators can change, so confirm on arrival.
High-limit & The Pavilion
Private high-limit salons serve premium players, and The Pavilion offers a more secluded gaming space within the Baha Bay water park. Baha Mar runs its own casino loyalty program; we score its clarity, not any offers.
Bingo & keno
There is no bingo hall or keno lounge at Baha Mar.
